Booth wished to help people in need with food, clothing and housing. This vision evolved into The Salvation Army’s social service programs. The Salvation Army has served metro Phoenix for nearly 125 years and provides assistance to approximately 325,000 individuals annually. The Salvation Army is dedicated to fulfilling its mission of “Doing the Most Good” by providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster survivors, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter for the homeless, and opportunities for underprivileged children. Eighty-two cents of every dollar donated to The Salvation Army are used to support these services. salvationarmyphoenix.org SPOT 127 YOUTH MEDIA CENTER SPOT 127, KJZZ’s youth media center, empowers teens to find their voices and engage with their communities through photo, audio and video storytelling. Each year we offer free afterschool and summer programming to nearly 300 teens in the metro Phoenix area, the majority of whom come from low-income households. Through our hands-on digital media curriculum, we give teens an outlet to share stories that might otherwise go unheard. Participants’ stories are shared on the web, social media and SPOT 127’s streaming radio station, and some content is shared via the web and on air at KJZZ 91.5, Phoenix’s NPR member station. SPOT 127 also puts students on the path toward post-secondary educational and career success by offering college enrollment assistance, scholarships and paid internships. kjzz.org
